- A glorious month in Maui to start off the year hosted by generous, welcoming friends. The turtles, whales and endless hours at the beach were all wonderful, and we feasted like kings.
- The weekend at Special Blend Gravel, the people I met and the things I learned there.
- Falling in love with Dufur, OR. I’d never heard of it either, but you would not believe how great the gravel is there. The views alone are worth the trip.
- Having 2 part-time jobs, where neither feel like work because I love what I do and who I work with.
- Kindness, generous hospitality and authentic connection that lead to 3 accidental weeks of falling in love with Whitefish, MT. There are so many lakes to jump into and so many forest roads to ride. You buy bread at a mailbox down the hill and there are deer everywhere.
- Being in Whitefish presented an opportunity to get to Glacier National Park. The best part for me was getting all the way out to Bowman Lake for a swim late one afternoon.
- Road trips to far away places to play bikes; or to work, so other people could play bikes.
- Bikes! The giddy delight of bike rides that make my heart sing.
- Race week! This was my 10th year working race week at the BC Bike Race and it is still my favourite week of the year. It’s such a good event, but for me, it’s always the people I get to meet and spend time with, that make the week so magical.
- Friends who believe in me more than I believe in myself. Human connection continues to be a major theme in all the best parts of my life.
- Finding the courage to commit to doing the BC Bike Race in 2025, after always thinking it is too challenging for me. Also helpful to have the moral support of patient friends who are willing to race with me.
- My commitment to training which is in turn a commitment to myself; to continue working towards being my best self. Now, and at 75 or 85.
- Getting back into the weight room and remembering how much I love lifting heavy things, and the accompanying feeling of being strong.
- 3 new races in 3 new places: Gorge Gravel Grinder, Cranbrook Gravel Grind and The Last Best Ride.
- Having my story published in Freehub Magazine was pretty special. I love that they were willing to tell a different story – a story about the delight of mountain biking, without any badassery anywhere in sight. Just joy!
- Being a 7Mesh Ambassador and appearing on their website as product model was a fun new experience.
- I got to speak to an audience of women about my incredible experiences racing, and even about being dead last. Spoiler alert – its not the worst thing in the world and you get way better value for money on your race entry.
- The friendships that get sorely tested, only to have your bond grow stronger from it.
- 72 hours in Toronto to celebrate my aunty’s 90th birthday and being surrounded by so much love.
- Seeing the aurora over the Chief in Squamish.
- The realisation that as you grow, your truths may evolve. I’m learning the value of revisiting my beliefs and always being open to possibilities.
- Making big plans for the year ahead and taking steps to put those plans into action.
- My deep contentment with my small, peaceful little life.
- And most of all, the kindness and love I have been shown in so many ways.
